History Of Baseball In Various Countries Sport Essay

History Of Baseball In Various Countries Sport Essay A Brief History of Baseball and the Dominican Republic Some time before David Ortiz and Pedro Martinez were breaking batting and throwing records, or baseball greats like the Alou siblings and Manny Mota were turning out to be notorious baseball figures, the Dominican Republic was at that point presenting an unmistakable brand of baseball to the world. The Dominican Republic has a long baseball history, which has just gotten more extravagant as of late. For more than 100 years, baseball has been at the focal point of social life in the Dominican Republic. Despite the fact that the birthplaces of baseball in the Dominican arent precisely known, students of history recommend that baseball previously went to the island around the 1880s. Despite the fact that it is a recorded misinterpretation that American Marines carried the game to the island during the 1916 attack, the United States played an essential, however aberrant, job in bringing baseball here. The United States carried the sport of baseball to Cuba in the mid-1860s. It is said that it was Cuban foreigners, escaping their countrys ten-year war, who spread the game all through the Caribbean, including the Dominican Republic. The principal baseball crews on the island were shaped either in the year 1894 or 1895. In the end four groups were framed, turning into the most established, and establishing associations of baseball in the nation. Los Tigres del Licey (The Tigers) was established in Santo Domingo (so as to contend with Club Ozama y Club Nuevo) in 1907. Throughout the following 15 years Licey turned out to be predominant to such an extent that an understanding was made among the three other contending groups (Los Muchachos, San Carlos, and Delco Light) to shape another group, contained their best players, so as to beat Licey. That group was Los Leones del Escogido. Las Estrellas Orientales (Eastern Stars) was established in San Pedro in the year 1911. Furthermore, later, as referenced, in 1921, Los Leones del Escogido (Lions of the Chosen One) was established in Santo Domingo. Sandino, who might get one of the more prevailing groups in the association, was established in 1921, (Sandino was later renamed Las Aguilas Cibaenas, (The Eagles, in 1936). After its presentation in the late 1880s the games fame immediately spread, and by the 1920s and 30s groups from the Dominican Republic were playing other Caribbean countries, just as groups from North America. Similarly as with everything on the island, Dictator Rafael Leonidas Trujillo, who became leader of the Republic in 1930, through military activity, eventually controlled all of Dominican baseball. Trujillo supervised the modernization of the Dominican Republic, and embraced the modernization of baseball as one of these assignments. He fabricated the primary significant baseball arena, and gave a road to the game to turn into the countrys national distraction. With the assistance of the tyrant, and his help of the game, this time got pivotal in giving the financial and political establishment for the game. The initiation of the official baseball alliance, and the inevitable finishing of â€Å"El Estadio Trujillo† (later renamed Estadio Quisqueya), were milestone occasions, as they solidified the spot of baseball in the Dominican social vocabulary. During the primary stage in the advancement of the countrys baseball history, games were played distinctly during the day. The game s second stage started when Estadio Quisqueya was worked in 1955. The arena was a splendidly structured and very much fabricated arena for now is the right time. With the arena came lights, and what is viewed as Dominican balls Golden Era. To a further degree, players from the United States, particularly the Negro Leagues, wandered down to the Caribbean, particularly to the Dominican Republic, to play against a portion of the Caribbeans best, adding to the degree of rivalry effectively present. One of the most popular players to take an interest in the Dominican baseball circuit was Negro League incredible Satchel Paige. In 1937 Paige was drawn closer by Dr. Jose Enrique Aybar, Dean of the University of Santo Domingo, appointee of the Dominican Republics national congress, and chief of Los Dragones. (Los Dragones were the two adversary groups from Santo Domingo, Licey and Escogido, who were converged to play in that years 1937 Dominican Baseball alliance). Los Dragones were a baseball crew worked by Rafael Leonidas Trujillo, and Aybar employed Paige to enroll gifted Negro League players to play for Trujillo. With $30,000 close by, the Negro League legend persuaded eight other Negro League players to go along with him for the eight-week long season, including future Negro League legends Josh Gibson, Cool Papa Bell, Leroy Matlock, Sam Bankhead, Harry Williams and Herman Andrews. Paige had a strong season, recording an alliance best 8-10 record, and Los Dragones completed the season in the lead position, with a general record of 18-13. After Los Dragones beat San Pedro de Macoris in the title game, (originating from a 3 games to 0 shortfall), all the players, aside from Paige came back to the United States, however Paige would inevitably come back to the States. Having little baseball choices subsequent to being restricted from the Negro National League, the returning players shaped Trujillos All-Stars, and traveled around the Midwest, playing in show and All-Star games. In the long run Paige would keep on trouping around the United States, however he could stay away forever to the island. The 1940s and 50s kept on carrying praise to the country, and its baseball alliance. The greatest baseball second for the Dominicans, up until that point, came in 1956. This noteworthy occasion prepared for the future movement of Dominican ability to the United States. This year saw the introduction of infielder Ozzie Virgil with the New York Giants. With the possibility of a strong ability base so moderately close, groups from the Major Leagues immediately started to send cash, players, and scouts to exploit the developing interest. This was another extraordinary lift for the Dominican baseball class and the countrys yearning players, as they got the opportunity to hone their aptitudes with a portion of the universes best ability. Players like Delmar Crandall, Grady Little, Bob Gibson, Willie Mays, Tommy Lasorda, Mike Piazza, Alex Rodriguez, and numerous others have exploited the degree of rivalry accessible here, and helped make the association considerably more grounded. Since the 1960s and 70s baseball schools have opened for business in the Dominican Republic, and nowadays every group in Major League Baseball has a school or a functioning portrayal here. There are right now six groups in the Dominican alliance. Those recently referenced, with the expansion of Los Toros and Los Azucareros. The groups start play in October, and the season goes through February, with each group playing 60 games, and the two finalists playing for the title. The two finalists additionally proceed to speak to the Dominican Republic in the Caribbean Baseball Series against Mexico, Venezuela and Puerto Rico. Of the six groups in the class there have been two incredible competitions that have developed, however this has been to the weakness of the alliances prominence as of late. In the prior long stretches of baseball on the island Los Tigres and Los Leones struggled ceaselessly for the top, however in later years it has been Los Tigres doing combating with Las Aguilas. Los Tigres have won 19 Dominican titles and 9 Caribbean World Series, while Las Aguilas have won 19 titles. Until now, 420 players from the Dominican Republic have played in the Majors (1956-2005), and as indicated by Major League Baseball there are 119 players speaking to Latin America, which is 24% of significant leaguers. Of these 119 players, 90 players originate from the Dominican Republic. There are a larger number of Dominicans playing in the Majors than from some other nation in Latin America, and the Dominican Republic has a bigger number of players in the Majors than every single other nation in Latin America consolidated. Dominicans have even made progress in different parts of the game. In 2003 Tony Pena, once of the Kansas City Royals, instructed against Felipe Alou, of the San Francisco Giants, making it the first occasion when that two Dominicans trained against one another in the Majors. Also, in 2004 Omar Minaya turned into the primary Dominican General Manager, working the front office for the New York Mets. Despite the fact that the quality of Dominican baseball is presently found in every one of the Major Leagues 30 groups, baseball despite everything stays a significant piece of this countrys history, and a significant social outlet on the island. Each time the subject of baseball comes up, the names of the legends of days gone by who deified the game are recalled and examined as though those players were all the while playing today. The Economy of Saudi Arabia

Question: What should Saudi Arabia, a country that receives 90% of its GDP from the oil sector, do in the long run. What are the determinants of economic growth in oil-producing countries such as Saudi Arabia. In the presence of highly volatile financial markets and crises, can non-oil sectors play a fundamental substitute to oil energy in Saudi Arabia. How would diversification in non-oil sectors aid Saudi Arabia in bringing about stability to their gross domestic product (GDP). What is your perception of the future of the oil market over the next 20 years?. Do you think the global trend toward sustainability and energy efficiency will have a real impact in the oil market? Why or why not? Answer: The economy of Saudi Arabia is completely based on the production of oil along with a strong control on the part of the government on the major economic activities. 16% of the proven total oil reserves around the world is possessed by the country. It plays a crucial role in OPEC and ranks first among the largest oil exporters across the world. The petroleum sector of Saudi Arabia accounts for 80% of the budget revenues and 45% of total GDP along with 90% of the earnings from export (Belloumi Alshehry, 2015). Currently the country is putting effort in accumulating its private sector in order to diversify its economy so as to employ more Saudi nationals. The efforts put on diversifying the economy mainly focuses on the generation of power, telecommunication, and exploration of natural gas and also on the petrochemical sector as well. The economy of Saudi Arabia is controlled by moreover 6 Million foreign workers who are employed, mainly in the oil and service sector of the country. At the same time Riyadh is struggling to eradicate unemployment among its own nationals. The organizations based on Saudi Arabia generally try to employ dynamic and efficient people but the youth of the country lacks in the proper education and skills that the private sector of the country requires (Alshehry Belloumi, 2015). Being major oil producing the country in the world, Saudi Arabia has also faced certain problems. In the year 2015 the country has experienced a budget deficit of 13% of the total Gross Domestic Product (GDP) and in the year 2016 the budget deficit is nearly equal to $87 billion. This budget deficit is planned to be financed by the revenue from bond sales along with reducing the reserves of the economy (Asif, 2016). Although the country is capable to finance its wide budget deficits by reducing its foreign reserves or by borrowing, it has planned to implement certain policy to avoid this deficit and has also planned to reduce its capital spending in the year 2016. Some components of this plan of reducing the spending include the imposition of Value Added Tax (VAT) along with withdrawing subsidies on the electricity, petroleum and water. The government of Saudi Arabia has also planned to privatize and diversify its economy more intricately in order to rejuvenate the oil market of the country (Anderson Jr, 2014). From the available resources it can be seen that the country primarily focused on the diversification of petrochemical, telecommunication, power generation and in the exploration of natural gas. However, in the present time the government of Saudi Arabia has strictly focused on their aims and objectives in the more long run the government may implement more drastic changes in the economic framework of the country for the low price of oil. These are the plans and actions of the government of Saudi Arabia which is adopted for maintaining the sustainability of the country. However, as the country is mainly based on the oil production sector it should also focus on extracting the oil reserves sustainably (Alshahrani Alsadiq, 2014). Natural oil is considered as the exhaustible resource, exhaustible resources are found deep under the earths crust and once it is depleted it takes millions of years to generate the resource again. Therefore, to establish long ru n sustainability in the oil and service sector of the economy of Saudi Arabia, the country must adopt a method that will sustain the oil reserves for years. This involves managing the sustainable resources for the generations to come and helping them to capture more of their values. Hence there should be a commitment to establish a sustainable economy that will definitely turn out to be prosperous in future (Alshahrani Alsadiq, 2014). Establishing sustainability involves optimization of all the processes and practices involved such as exploration, discovery, recovery and processing in the production of oil. It also requires shifting the technologies used in these processes to an energy efficient one. The main principle of establishing sustainability that should be followed all over the country is, Reducing the use of energy for the facilities of the organizations by 2% Redesigning the facilities which will again be energy efficient Increasing awareness about the efficiency of energy Promoting and influencing the efficiency of energy at the national level. Energy intensity can also be a measure of success of this initiative, the total energy spend to produce a barrel of oil is equivalent to a thousand of Btu. In the year 2015 the energy intensity was measured to be 108000 Btu which lower by 8% when compared to that of in the year 2014 and further lower by 23% when compared with the energy intensity in the year 2013 (Belloumi Alshehry, 2016). Looking for Me free essay sample

Comparing yourself to others is not only extremely unhealthy, it is hindering to self progression. Until recently, this is something I have struggled with. Growing up, I could see I was different, not only physically, but mentally as well. No one seemed to understand or relate to me. I had plenty of friends that I genuinely liked and got along with; nevertheless, I did not feel a true connection with anyone. I had no one to let my guard down with and just talk candidly for hours about nothing and everything. Feeling this way, often times made me isolate myself and naturally, that led to observing and comparing. Constantly striving to change yourself is exhausting. In some cases, change is good and necessary. However, when nothing is particularly wrong, change is not needed and essentially, all it did was make it more difficult for me to find myself. I had noticed that certain qualities were idolized or sought after. We will write a custom essay sample on Looking for Me or any similar topic specifically for you Do Not WasteYour Time HIRE WRITER Only 13.90 / page I had spent so much time and effort altering my appearance, actions, and emotions to imitate said qualities, I lost who I was. In fact, I do not think I even knew who that was. That was the problem. In that instant, I knew I had to change. My progress is something I am truly proud of. Upon entering high school, a time when children feel especially judged and insecure, I did everything in my power not to fall into that entrapment. I had been feeling that way most of my life and I was done. Initially, I could not seem to shake old habits of comparing and putting myself down for not measuring up, but I did not stop trying. That perseverance is what ultimately got me to where I am today. I focused on building new relationships and creating genuine connections with people. This was a great foundation to help me feel more secure and involved. In time, I began to stop comparing myself to others and started gearing my attention toward the person who needed it the most, me. As I grow older, I hope to grow as a person and I believe I can do so at Penn State. While visiting Penn State, I get this overwhelming feeling of welcome. It feels like home: comforting and inviting. Everyone has so much pride in the school and in each other. There is such a large foundation of Penn State alumni who still support one another years after they graduate. This is especially enticing to me because I still have not truly found that sense of belonging but I know I am well on my way; Penn State can and will grant me that. I am unsure of what it is exactly I plan to do with the rest of my life, but considering there are hundreds of reputable majors offered at Penn State, I am certain I will find one that is right for me.

Critique of Quentin Tarantino essays

Critique of Quentin Tarantino essays Pulp Fiction, a movie from the mid 90s made for the millennium. From the action packed mind of Quentin Tarantino, Pulp Fiction takes two hit men, Jules Winnfield and Vincent Vega through an excessively violent plot. Combining drugs and violence in a way that is unspeakable to a normal persons everyday life. With trouble around every corner, Jules (Samuel L. Jackson) and Vincent (John Travolta) must make quick work of almost everyone they come in contact with. Tarantino makes writing a dramatically intense script look easy. His genius into human behavior in this modern day world makes this movie and others undeniably classics. With intersecting storylines of gangsters and general low-lifes, Pulp Fiction grabs the attention of the viewer in the opening scene. Honey Bunny and Pumpkin, two petty thieves decide to rob an unsuspecting restaurant and get away with some quick cash. Once the two thieves start their rampage in the restaurant the opening credits begin to play. Then we are introduced to the two main characters, Jules and Vincent. This is where Tarantino really turns up the heat on the religious prospects of the movie. Jules and Vincent enter the boys apartment to receive a package for their boss Marcellus Wallace. When Jules starts in on one of the boys named Brett he recites the bible verse that he memorized in order to say some cold blooded shit to anybody he pointed a gun at (Pulp Fiction. Dir. Quentin Tarantino. Miramax. 1994.). This opens up the eyes of the viewer and really puts the fear of God in them. Tarantino knew this and by putting this verse into the character of Jules Winnfield that it would show the thin line between good and evil, thus telling you not to play God. The package the hit-men are supposed to obtain is a black briefcase. There are many different point-of-views into the real meaning behind the well k...

Training on such aspects enables companies to focus their synergies in providing competitive services at the right time. This paper explores the best way of managing training program at Manage Your Health Company (MYH) that is expected to be rolled out. The training programs the institution seeks to adopt is to improve employee performance by ensuring their health and physical wellbeing. In particular, the company that has over 20,000 full time employees and 5,000 part time employees is set to offer training on recreation and wellness. The program is to be facilitated by experienced trainers with the capacity of ensuring holistic development. As noted, MYH is set to roll out a recreation and wellness training program that aims at equipping employees with requisite incentives for health development. The training is to be executed to boost health conditions of the staff and in turn engage in quality service delivery. Improving employee health requires effective and timely enlightening on dietary matters, awareness creation on healthy foodstuffs, and education on balanced diet among others (Richard, Emener & Hutchison, 2009). On the other hand, keeping fit calls for favorable fitness training and systematic workout by the employees. These aspects require a well versed training team and management for best results to be attained. To achieve the objectives, the institution contemplates outsourcing the management of the training process to facilitate the program based on the scope of work to be executed. However, the proposal to outsource trainers is deemed unnecessary and wasteful given that MYH Company has a well-established internal training team/department that has over the years conducted various training programs successfully. The internal training department has the capacity to conduct the program that requires

Overcoming Poverty Through Enlightenment Essay example -- Enlightened

Contents Introduction Part One: Song Lyric, â€Å"Wavin’ Flag†, K’NAAN Part Two: Essay, â€Å"What is Poverty?’ by Theodore Dalrymple Part Three: Documentary, â€Å"Solar Mamas† directed by J.Noujaim & M.Eldaief Part Four: Critical Analysis Introduction In the media form of a song, â€Å"Wavin’ Flag† by K’naan, an essay, â€Å"What is Poverty?† by Theodore Dalrymple and the documentary, Solar Mamas, directed by J.Noujaim & M.Eldaief the unifying message that is relevant through all these pieces of work is that in order to overcome poverty individuals must experience enlightenment. This essay will explore this topic in great detail. Part One: Song Lyric, â€Å"Wavin’ Flag†, K’NAAN In the song Wavin’ Flag by K’naan the message that is conveyed through the lyrics is despite what hardships an individual has faced they have the ability to overcome their struggle. The author of the song, K’naan comes from a war-torn country, Somalia where a civil war has displaced his family from their home. K’naan wrote of a struggling group who faces oppression and exploitation. Through the lyrics one can see the exploitation of the individuals, â€Å"But look how they treat us, make us believers/we fight their battles, then they deceive us.†(K’naan) Marxist theory can be applied to these lyrics, as the proletariat are being exploited by the bourgeoisie as a method of profit through their labour. The people are commoditized and are treated as such, they are considered expendable so the bourgeoisie do not care for their well-being. The use of allusion is evident in the lyrics, as it refers to the Somali civil war, where the people are used to fight a war through the promise of freedom, peace, and independence. Although the proletariat has become aware of their struggle,... ...s her home and that she has to take care of her children. She later reveals that she was embarrassed to tell him the truth, and the real reason for her return was that her husband threatened to divorce her and take her children away if she did not return home. The film allows the audience to see through the perspective of the women and they are able to better understand the truth because of the different perspectives it use in comparison to the single perspective in a song or essay. Smoking Among College Students

Ashley Smith Professor Joy Versluis English 121 24 Sept 2012 Smoking among College Students The reason why this topic motivates me is because I have many family members who smoke cigarettes. Both my grandfather’s heavily consumed cigarettes throughout their lives. They both became ill from cigarette smoking and got cancer which is a common disease in result of smoking. The disease eventually took both their lives. I would like to study this to learn more about tobacco use and the illnesses caused by it. Smoking is an addiction that can cause many damages to the human body. Most people smoke because of stress and problems going on in their lives. Cigarettes are made up of tobacco and what makes them addictive is the nicotine in them. There are many different types of cigarettes such as menthol and no menthol. People spend a lot of money on their habit per week which could go to more useful things for their family. The prices for a pack of cigarettes are about $7 per pack and mos t people smoke about a pack a day. Smoking can cause many illnesses but is mostly known for cancer. People who smoke cigarettes usually start in early adulthood so I think studying college students will be the right target. In researching college students who smoke cigarettes, what I want to learn most is why do college students smoke? Is stress the major factor or do they just want to fit in? I would like to learn if they are educated about cigarettes and the harm they can do to their body. I think the more educated the students are they will want to become healthier and make better choices for their future. I hope to learn how many cigarettes the average student consumes per day and if the cost of their habit affects them financially.I think it’s important to learn how old they were when they started smoking and if they started when it was illegal and they were underage. I would also like to find out if your parents smoke are the kids more likely to follow their footsteps be cause that’s what they saw growing up. There are many sources available about college students smoking cigarettes. There are books and websites about how cigarettes can be addicting and ways to quit smoking. If you want to pursue help there are programs you can join to help educate students and prevent them from tobacco use.My sources in searching this topic are about the fitness and health of smokers and nonsmokers, the attitudes people have towards smoking among college students and what they think about it, how smoking among students has fluctuated over the past twenty years, and how campus smoking has become an important public health issue. What intrigued me were all the sources out there that give information about health issues and concerns from smoking cigarettes. Many academic disciplines are connected to smoking. The main one is health science discipline areas because there are many illnesses, diseases, and deaths caused by the consumption and smoke.Another discipli ne area related to smoking is human physical performance and recreations because the damage smoking does to your physical health, fitness, and performance as an athlete. A challenge I anticipate is people’s confidentiality because some students may not want to answer questions I have to fulfill my research fully. Also students might think I’m judgmental because they do smoke and I am writing an essay on them. I will address these problems by apologizing and asking students who are willing to cooperate and answer any questions I may have. There are some questions I still have about researching. How do you know which sources are the most useful to your topic? When I was finding sources to cigarette smoking among college students there are many results. I tried to find different sources that gave information people may not already know and may be interested in learning. My researcher’s temperature is about an eight on a scale up to ten. I feel I have found useful in formation to help me study smoking among college students. I have good sources and knowledge of smoking to write a good paper. I am ready to further my study and observe and interview students who consume tobacco. Works Cited Corbett Thompson, Sandra. The Physical Fitness of Women Smokers and Non Smokers. The Tough Guy case team testimony must be a collective document before presentation and be absent of sensationalism, false reports, and disinformation. This will require some element of proof entailing times, dates, places, and situation staging. Nestles Corporate Generic Competitive Strategy Free Essay Example, 5500 words

Market leaders in the developed world, such as Nestle, sets out to exploit the opportunities in the emerging market and expect to repeat their successes in mature ones. Sustainable growth has become a corporate objective. However, Nestle does not treat emerging markets similarly with developed ones. Emerging markets requires a long term perspective that considers financial and economic turmoil. The idea of focusing on the emerging markets as a solution to keep maintaining or even increasing the growth results has been a common long term strategy for many large consumer product companies. The idea makes sense because the western markets have become mature in the last few decades and most successful companies have had to contend with reduced selling price margins and hence lesser profits. In other words, such markets are intensely competitive and the companies have to make huge investments in increasing economies of scale in order to reach more number of customers. In addition, eme rging markets offer several new challenges and scope of extremely high growth, especially for early-bird companies. An emerging market has been defined by Luo as a country in which its nation s economy grows rapidly, its industry is structurally changing, its markets promising but volatile, its regulatory framework favours economic liberation and the adoption of a free-market system, and its government is reducing bureaucratic and administrative control over business activities (2002:5). Greek Mythology in Astronomy free essay sample

Mythology in Astronomy The creatures and deities in Greek mythology are said to have connection with the astronomy and the star constellations. In this fragment of Hesiods poem â€Å"Nymphs like the Graces, Phaesyle and Coronis and rich-crowned Cleeia and lovely Phaeo and long-robed Eudora, whom the tribes of men upon the earth call Hyades. † (Hesiod, Homeric Hymns, Epic Cycle, Homerica. 1922) titled Astronomy, he mentioned and catalogued many of the constellations based on creatures and gods in greek mythology. Mythological aspect of the astronomy are mostly covered on the northern hemisphere, which includes the 12 zodiac constellations and some other constellations. The zodiac constellations formed an imaginary circle which the sun, moon, and seven of the nine planets orbited in the space, for example the Taurus which symbolizes the bull which describe zeus, and the form he took when he carried off the phoenician maiden, Europa. The other constellations are the constellations located out of the imaginary circle or the zodiac circle. One of the story about it is from the book written by Hyginus titled Poetica Astronomica: He is said to have been given by Jove as a guardian for Europa, and later to have come to Minos. When Minos was ill, Procris, wife of Cephalus, is said to have cured him, and received the dog as a reward for her services, as she was very fond of hunting and the dog was so swift that no beast could escape. After her death the dog came to Cephalus her husband, who brought it to Thebes with him when he came. There was a fox there which was said to be so swift that it could outrun all dogs. So when the two animals met, Jupiter, in a dilemma, as Istrus says, changed them both to stone. Some have said that this is the dog of Orion, and because Orion was devoted to hunting, the dog was put with him among the stars. Others have called it the dog of Icarus. (Hyginus, C. Julius, Poetica astronomica) The other constellations can be added into zodiac constellations when the orbit of the planet passes certain constellations, for example, the Ophiuscus which bear the serpent sign that was recently added as the 13th zodiac sign. In addition to the constellations, mythological aspect of the astronomy also talks about the other heavenly bodies like the star clusters, galaxies, and nebulaes. Unlike constellations that most of them have mythical backgrounds, only few heavenly bodies have mythical backgrounds like Pleiades, Andromeda and Milky Way. However, constellations and the heavenly bodies have some similarities, and one of it is that they both have some unique way to be catalogued. The heavenly bodies have three different catalogue developed by three different people. The catalogue usually have prefix attached with numbers on it. The first catalogue are the Messier catalogue developed by Charles Messier, the catalogue uses the prefix M before the number and had catalogued around 109 clusters, nebulae, and galaxies in 1786. This catalogue are still used today. The second catalogue system is the new general catalogue or also known as the NGC, this catalogue was developed by Johan Ludvig Emil Dreyer in 1888 and has catalogued over 8000 objects. The last one is the index catalogue (IC) which was developed by J. L. E Dreyer, based on www. ngcicproject. org, the index catalogue gives notes and correction to the new general catalogue on the year 1888 to 1894 and add some findings on the year 1895 to 1907. The association of gods and the planets also worth mentioning if we talk about mythology and astronomy. Especially due to the facts that most of the planets today have the name of the gods, also on the old days, the ancient Greeks views the planets as a wandering stars. They also included sun and moon as a planet and was governed by titan and titaness. They also didnt add the planet that wasnt visible to the human eye at that time, so at that time, Pluto, Uranus, and Neptune wasnt included into the planetary list by the ancient astronomers.

Imperial Woman Essays - Historical Novels, Manchu People, Concubines

Imperial Woman In 1852, a Manchurian girl, Orchid, clan name Yehonala, was summoned to be viewed by the Emperor of China. On the twentieth day of the sixth moon, the last Empress of China was chosen. By right, her cousin, Sakota, was the Emperor's consort, but she gave birth to a girl. Yehonala gave birth to a boy and became the Empress, Tzu Hsi. Once the Son of Heaven dies, Tzu Hsi and the consort, Tzu An, became the Empress Mother and Regent. Since Tzu Hsi was the stronger of the two, it seemed as if she was the only Empress. Her son grew up to be the Emperor of China. All his decisions were still made by his mother, but he died young. Tzu Hsi had to find the next heir before any trouble started. She took her sister and the sixth prince's son to be raised as the next Emperor. Once the Heir grew up, Tzu Hsi retired to the Summer Palace. Again, she was called back to be the ruler of China since her nephew had made foolish decision. The people of China called her Old Buddha. According the novel, Yehonala was a beautiful woman with a fierce heart. Since she was a virgin, she was called to be viewed by the Dowager Mother and the Son of Heaven. She could not disobey the command. Yehonala wanted to marry her third cousin, Jung Lu, but the Emperor of China chose her to be one of his concubines. His mother opposed this decision because she noticed Yehonala had a strong spirit. Concubines were not meant to have ambitions, they were meant to be pretty and serve the Emperor in any way. Yehonala's cousin, Sakota was chosen to the Consort. Earlier, an older Sakota was Emperor's chosen one, but she had died. By tradition, the Emperor must fulfill his duties to the dead Consort by choosing Sakota to be his new Consort. Once Sakota conceived, the Emperor's duties were done and he turned to Yehonala. The Emperor did not leave his bedchamber for three days. According to the records, no concubine or consort had stayed with the Emperor Hsien Feng for such a long time. Yehonala became pregnant, but she did not say anything. If Sakota bore a son, then Yehonala would be useless. However, if Yehonala bore a son and Sakota bore a girl, then Yehonala would have the title of the young Dowager Mother. As it turns out, Sakota did give birth to a weak girl. Yehonala started to educate herself so she would be a proper ruler. The Dowager Mother had died at the announcement of the girl infant and the pregnancy of Yehonala. On third moon of the spring year, Yehonala gave birth to a son. According to tradition, Sakota had a duty to protect the Heir like her own child. Because of her status, Yehonala manipulated the Emperor to allow her to have an equal position as Sakota. Her name was changed to Tzu Hsi. Before her life was simple, now she has to defend her life and her son's life from the younger brothers of the Emperor. Prince Cheng, Prince Yi, and the Grand Councilor plotted to kill Tzu Hsi and the Heir while the son of Heaven was dying. Tzu Hsi very cunningly persuaded the dying monarch to declare the child the heir and the two Empresses as Regents. As a supreme ruler and more dominant than Sakota, Tzu Hsi ordered the Three Traitors to die. The Grand Councilor Su Shun was sliced into one thousand pieces and his whole family was killed. Prince Yi and Prince Kung were ordered to hang themselves in order to save face, or die with dignaty. Other than protect herself from power greedy politicians, the Chinese distrusted female rulers, specially the females from Manchu race, so there were many rebels ready to overthrow the dynasty. Foreigners were trying to take over businesses and convert China to a more Western lifestyle. All of this was her burden to take of and she was only twenty-six years old. As her son grew up, there was some speculation about the little emperor's paternity. Tzu Hsi had made Jung Lu the new Grand Councilor and there was talk about who was the real father. Once the little Emperor was in his teens, he became the Emperor of China, but Tzu Hsi still had power behind the throne. The Dowager Mother did not want foreigners taking over her country, so she forbade any sort of
